The 2008 Christmas Fayre and Toy Exhibition

Knitted ToysTruck Money BoxKnitted dolls

LSFF’s successful Fayre and Toy Exhibition held on Saturday, 6th December 2008 was packed with craft items made by members from ideas researched over the internet.  History taught us that Greek & Roman children played with balls, clay rattles, clay dolls, hand carts, hobby horses, hoops and spinning tops. Between the Dark Ages and the Middle Ages some children would have hand made wooden toys such as tops, hobby horses and puppets.  Hand made replicas of animals played a large part in all the major cultures of the world.
At their twice weekly workshops members made dolls, dressed dolls, welsh dolls, stuffed animals as well as cribs, North American truck and train money boxes, board games, nursery rhyme stuffed toys, trinket boxes and of course Santa’s.  Members made many puppets from their Artscare puppet making course including the puppet wedding.

The plastic canvas village was on display, together with photographs and patterns showing the changing styles throughout the twentieth century.

Visitors were able to viewthe wide range of arts and crafts on display and purchase gifts that have been made by our members throughout the year.
